The Fort Worth Zoo should be on the bucket list of every animal lover in the area, or anyone planning on visiting soon. This world-class zoo boasts over 700 animals from over 500 different species and has received national attention for it’s conservation and educational efforts. With programs for schoolchildren of all ages, camps, events, and many different programs, this amazing attraction is not to be missed!
History
Oddly enough, the Fort Worth Zoo began modestly in 1909 with a few animals, including rabbits, a lion, and an alligator. Over the decades, the zoo expanded its collection and facilities, emphasizing naturalistic habitats and comprehensive care for the animals. After some major renovations were completed in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the zoo transformed into a leading conservation and educational institution.

There’s something for everyone at the Fort Worth Zoo. Featured exhibits include: Predators of Asia & Africa, Elephant Springs, African Savanna, the Museum of Living Art, Texas Wild!, Children’s Ranch & Petting Corral, Australian Outback, Penguins, Raptor Canyon, and World of Primates. Programs
Spring Break and Summer Camps
There are so many amazing programs for children of all ages at the zoo. Some of these include the Spring Break and Summer Camps, both of which host children from 4 to 17 years old. The activities for these camps vary based on age, but all of them are centered around exploring nature and the natural world with animal encounters and other wildlife activities.
Middle and High School Camps
Campers in these groups will get up close and personal with some of the zoo’s favorite residents. Always fun and educational, subjects range from habitat, nutrition, biology, and more. Camp activities vary based on the weekday, and you can sign your middle or high schooler up for one day, multiple days, or the entire week!
The zoo also accommodates field trips, assuming you register and follow the guidelines in place. Passes are discounted for those groups that are approved. It’s recommended to visit the field trip page directly, as there are many regulations.
Membership
For those who live or work near the zoo, a membership is the ultimate way to enjoy animals and attractions. At the time of writing, you get unlimited admission to the zoo, free parking, discounts on various activities and attractions, and a 10% discount on most food and merchandise kiosks and stores. You’ll also receive a free subscription to Roar! Magazine and special invitations to member-only events.
Finally, the zoo offers several events a year, including Beastro and the Zoo Run. They also host one of the most fun fall events, called Boo at the Zoo. This event goes on for a few days in late October and is a huge hit with the kids. You’ll find fall decorations, treat stations, fall-themed entertainment, and, of course, animal shows.
